After many years sitting at a desk working for large corporate companies as a Business Improvement Consultant and an IT Quality and Compliance specialist and auditor, I had always wanted to ‘make something’. Metal working runs in the family – blacksmiths, plumbers and a tool maker. I did a short (12 weeks – one hour per week) course in Edinburgh where I learned the basics and then built my skills by watching YouTube and later by following Andrew Berry’s AtTheBench.com.
Over the past few years I have made many pieces for friends and family and have had quite a few commissions from friends of friends and family.
I believe it is important to continue to learn new skills and to improve existing skills – doing the diploma course starting in 2024 was my most recent challenge.
I live in my home town of Dundee in Scotland – home to the V&A, McManus Galleries, Verdant Works, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design and many other inspirational places.
