In term 3 much of the focus was on stone setting. There was a claw set ring using a tube to create the claws then we created a double gallery claw setting from scratch – so small and so many soldering operations! We used pre-made castings to create two stone set pieces – a ring and pendant. The mirror finish locket was a very technically difficult one with the hinge, the clasp and that mirror polish. Louise (AtTheBench) took the photos and included herself in it :-).
Our final project was very much of our own specification and design. There were guidelines to ensure we included elements from the course with sufficient levels of difficulty and technique. My final project was a pendant with a textured back plate and two articulated front plates each with pierced out design and a bezel set stone. The bail was riveted on and the two front plates were also joined using a tube which was flared to hold them in place but also allowed them to spin.
